Even touching the face can worsen acne. Without realizing it, most of us touch our faces many times throughout the day. In fact, all objects, including eyeglasses and telephone handsets, that make contact with the face must be clean. Hair, particularly long hair, also touches your face, so it is important to keep your hair clean and oil free. Bacterial infections and their treatment

Doxycycline along with other medications is widely used for treating various types of bacterial infections. But what do you know about infections and how can Doxycycline help?

We all know that there are different kinds of bacteria that lead to infectious diseases. Still, this simple assumption is just not enough to prevent and overcome bacterial infections. Quite often bacterial infections do not require any medical measures. Mild problems are usually eliminated with the use of domestic solutions, which are quite different from country to country. Still, if the symptoms of bacterial infection last despite your treatment attempts, it is definitely time to visit your doctor and get a serious medical treatment.

If the infection turns out to be really serious, you may be prescribed with antibiotic treatment. There's nothing to fear about bacterial infections, however it's always much better to keep them at bay and try to prevent the in the first place.

The symptoms you will experience with a bacterial infection will strongly depend on the actual type of infection you have. It also depends on the actual area of infection. Even the mildest form of infection will give you disturbances in the area where it takes place, and you will know that something isn't right.

One of the most common types of bacterial infections, especially with people who are dwelling in areas with polluted air. Pneumonia is widely spread in people with weak immune system, such as children or seniors. Sinusitis and pharyngitis are also quite common forms of bacterial diseases. Colored nasal discharge and headaches are the most widespread symptoms of such infections.

When there's a case of infection in the digestive tract, the symptoms experienced by the patient are often of the digestive nature. The most common symptoms experienced with bacterial infections of the gastrointestinal tract include vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, dehydration and stomach pain. Sometimes bacterial infections may lead to different forms of ulcer, so make sure to control the development of the disease.

Bacterial infections in the vagina are often characterized by an unpleasant smell coming from the area. Typically, female vagina is home for certain types of beneficial bacteria. Still, when the production and activity of these bacteria are affected by external factors or become irregular, this may lead to bacterial diseases. Infections in the vagina and the urinary tract should be addressed as soon as possible, because they may lead to inflammation of other organs as well. The most common treatment for such infections is antibiotic medications such as Doxycycline.

Meningitis is a serious health problem that is caused by bacterial activity in the spinal chord and the brain. Small children are more prone to this disease however adults can suffer from it too. The most common signs of such a problem include headache, irritability, stiffness in head, neck and body, skin rashes and lethargy. This is a very serious health problem and if you observe any signs of meningitis, you should seek medical attention immediately.

The most critical consequence of a bacterial infection is sepsis, which can lead to death. With this condition the patient experiences fever, seizures, and joint pain. When these signs are present you should seek emergency attention immediately, or the consequences may be fatal. Do not try to use any antibiotics like Doxycycline on your own in situations like these, because the patient will need professional medical help and monitoring. About Author

Anti-androgens in Acne Treatment

Antiandrogens typically work by blocking the appropriate receptors, contending for binding sites on the cell's surface, obstructing the androgens' pathway.

An antiandrogen, or androgen antagonist, is some of a group of hormone receptor antagonist compounds that are able of preventing or inhibiting the biologic effects of androgens, male sex hormones, on normally responsive tissues in the body. Antiandrogens typically work by blocking the appropriate receptors, contending for binding sites on the cell's surface, obstructing the androgens' pathway.

There are newer 3 alpha reductase inhibitors.

1) Topical inocoterone acetate: Inocoterone is a non-steroidal antiandrogen. It has been shown to formed a small but significant reduction of inflamed acne. It however does not decrease the number of comedonal acne lesions and the rate of sebum secretion.

2) Spironolactone: This is a synthetic steroid that blocks the androgen receptor and inhibits the enzyme 5 alpha reductase in the skin. It decreases sebum secretion by 30 to 50%. Recommended doses are 50-100mg daily; however women with inflammatory acne lesions have been know to respond to a 25mg. dose. Common side effects include inducement of high potassium levels, breast tenderness, menstrual irregularities, testicular atrophy and erectile dysfunction. Pregnancy during spironolactone therapy should be avoided.

3) Cyproterone acetate: This synthetic steroidal antiandrogen acts by inhibiting ovulation and topically by blocking the androgen receptors on cells in sebaceous gland. Thus it serves both as an oral contraceptive and as anti-acne therapy. Given in doses of 2mg. to 100mg per day it has shown improvement in 75 ? 90% women with acne. It has a similar effects topically as compared to oral dosing after three months of therapy. However the levels achieve by topical application are naturally lower than oral medication. The most serious potential side effect is liver toxicity. Patients should be regularly monitored for changes in liver functions, especially if they are taking high doses.

Disadvantages of anti-androgens

The main drawback of antiandrogens is that they cannot be used in male patients orally, since they cause turnaround of secondary male sex characteristics, minimize the activity of the male organs and reduced sexual desire. For men the only practical option is finasteride. While officially used to treat pattern-baldness, some dermatologists use it to treat acne as well. About Author

The Best Acne Treatment for Everybody

This article explores the notion that not every acne treatment will work the same. Different acne treatments are discussed including topical treatments and prescription such as Accutane.

According to the American Association for Dermatologists, the Acne Resource Center is reporting that 40% of Americans are currently suffering from acne. Though acne may be one of the most common skin problems affecting America today, this does not necessarily mean that it is the easiest problem to treat.

There are common forms of acne that are easily treated and respond well to a variety of treatments, but every skin type is different, and so is every person's lifestyle. Regardless of what may be causing your acne, if you suffer from it regularly, you want to be sure that you get the best possible treatment fast, without spending a fortune trying different remedies. Here you will find out what the best acne treatment will be for your specific type of acne. Use this information to find the treatment that will work best for you, so you can clear away this embarrassing problem for good.

The two most common forms of treatment for acne are topical treatments and oral treatments or prescription medication. How you go about seeking treatment for your acne will depend on the type of acne you have, and what has proven to be the most effective.

If you struggle with acne that comes in the form of whiteheads or black heads, clearing up your acne problem will be quicker than you think. Blackheads and whiteheads are known to best respond to topical treatments that will take care of the problem almost immediately. The reason these two types of acne respond so well to topical treatments is the fact that these types of acne live in pores that are already open on your face, or on the area of your body you get acne. Using topical treatments on already open pores then will clean out the area and sterilize the bacteria that is creating the acne. This leaves then a very easy cleanup job for your topical treatment of choice to clear acne fast.

What kind of topical ointment should you look for when you want to clean acne fast? You want to look for treatments that contain either benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid. Specifically Benzoyl Peroxide is the best treatment to use on open pore acne, and is available over the counter in most major brands of skin care. This is the time for you to read ingredients on cleansers that promise the most, and Benzoyl peroxide and Salicylic acid will work to clean out the bacteria in your acne, and dry it out to prevent further growth. For small acne flare-ups such as whitheads or blackheads, products containing benzoyl peroxide will clear acne fast.

For those Americans that struggle with more serious acne, such as cystic acne that is persistent and frequent, you may want to consider oral treatments in the form of prescription medication such as Accutane. This kind of medication will target the cause of your acne, the bacteria that is growing underneath the skin. Many acne sufferers will use oral antibiotics like tetracycline, but your body can become immune to this over time making this a less effective acne treatment as time passes on. Accutane is a powerful antibiotic that has been said to be much safer than taking other oral antibiotics for acne over an extended period. Accutane will work right at the oil glands themselves, drying them out and cleaning up current breakouts while at the same time preventing future ones.

When you are looking for acne treatment, the number of choices can be overwhelming. The treatment you choose will depend on the severity of your condition and what kind of acne you have. If you have chronic acne, talk to your doctor about treatment today. About Author

Birth control pills control the sebum significantly to be produced.

What is acne?
Acne is a chronic disorder of the hair follicles and sebaceous glands. Acne is characterized by black heads, pimple outbreaks, cysts, infected abscesses, and (sometimes) scarring. Acne is the result of inflammation of the sebaceous glands and hair follicles of the skin producing pimples and pustules.

Sebaceous glands (fatty glands found in hair follicles throughout the body that secrete oil into the hair and surrounding skin and they emit oil) found on many parts of the body which produce Sebum. When the production of sebum increases, it blocks the sebaceous glands, which makes sebum filling the gland into balloon shape. This is generally called as acne. If the production of sebum decreases so is the acne and vice-versa

How birth control pills work on acne?
Androgen are group hormones, also known as male hormones in the body are responsible for excess sebum production. Birth control pills control androgen hormones significantly. Androgen hormones? activity in sebaceous glands either increases or decreases the production of sebum. When androgen hormones increases in sebaceous glands, its produces more sebum and so it appears in the form of acne. This activity is greatly observed in teenagers and young adults specially between the ages of 12 and 24, when they experience many physical changes.

However, it must be noted here that that there are mainly two types of birth control pills available. One is Progestin Only Pill (POP) and other is Combination Pill (having progestin and estrogen hormones). These combination birth control pills come in different combination level of progestin and estrogen hormones. The estrogens may be in the form of ethinyl etradiol. In fact, this is the ethinyl etradiol that controls the level of androgen hormones in the sebaceous glands.

In 1997, Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved low-dose birth control pill Ortho Tri-cyclen to be used for acne treatment. It controls the production of androgen hormones in sebaceous glands and thus reduces acne to appear significantly.

Despite the fact that birth control pills work effectively on acne treatment, it is certainly not advisable for sexually inactive and teenagers to use them as the medium of acne treatment unless they consult their physician or doctor first.
