Prostate cancer strikes one in six American men in their lives, even if in most cases it is progressing so slowly, that it would not cause problems. The PSA tests can give early warning of prostate cancer. But PSA tests give many false alarms, prompting more than a million unnecessary biopsies each year. And when prostate cancer has been found in more than 80% of men are surgery, radiation therapy or hormone treatment, which sometimes gives them incontinent or impotent, even if their cancer is more likely to never be life-threatening.
The u.s. preventive services task force, a panel of independent experts, non-governmental organisations in the prevention and evidence-based medicine recently recommended that doctors Stop screen men's PSA samples do not have symptoms of prostate cancer. This has given rise to protests from some experts and advocacy groups for prostate cancer would be lost, and many doctors are still prescribing tests.
